Nisyrian Youth Mission

The Nisyrian Youth Organization was created in an effort to bring together young Nisyrian Americans. Over the past several decades, the mission of the Youth has been to bring together young adults in an effort to help them keep in touch with their Nisyrian roots and surrounding community. The dedication of our past, current and future members have provided the Youth with continued success. More recently, the interest in our organization has dwindled. We are no longer the strong Youth we once were. At this point in time, we have less than twenty full – paid members, the majority of which are members of our board. We have made numerous attempts to contact new and old members via e-mail, Facebook and mailings. With the new year upon us, we have decided to make a fresh start and bring back the youth organization that we remember, the one mirrors the memories of our parents and grandparents. 

            The Nisyrian Youth welcomes all members of Nisyrian descent between the ages of thirteen and thirty years old. The Youth has taken and continues to take an active role in the events hosted by both the Nisyrian Society and Haravgi. In addition, the Youth hosts a number of events throughout the year. Of the most recent events hosted was a Toys – For – Tots party open to members and non-members in the Youth’s basement. The party was a success, with over forty guests attending.  In the last years, the Nisyrian Youth has actively participated in a number of charitable events including the Ronald McDonald Walk-a-thon and Toys for Tots. As a Youth, we also make an effort to participate and host community events such as the Greek Independence Day Parade and our annual Nisyrian Youth Picnic in early June. For those who are interested, the Nisyrian Youth also offers a dance group. Practices and performances are usually coordinated with the help of the Nisyrian Society’s dance teachers in accordance with their events.

            The Youth offers every member an opportunity to meet and connect with other peers that are of Nisyrian descent. It is a chance to create long lasting friendships, relationships and bond over the place that we love the most – Nisyros. With that said, we would like to wish everyone a happy and healthy new year!
