On October 3rd 2010 the Haravgi Society sponsored a bilingual medical lecture at the Hellenic Cultural Center, in Astoria. The physicians of Nisyrian decent ,spoke in detail regarding their respective specialties. The participating doctors were, Helen Gouzoulis Koutsos M.D. - Internal Medicine, Lorraine Chrisomalis Valasiadis M.D. - Gynecology/Risk Pregnancy Specialist, Triantafillios Fillos M.D.- Oncology/Hematology. The event was chaired by Mrs.Stacey Figetakis , president of Ellas Medical Consultants.
On October 16, 2010, Haravgi held a trip to White Post Farms for a fun filled family day, chaired by, Mrs. Anna Loizides and Mrs. Stacey Figetakis . The children had an amazing day feeding the animals and pumpkin picking. A lovely lunch was provided by the society and the children came home with a very educational packet referring to the agriculture of Nisyros.
On November 11, 2010, Haravgi held a trip to Radio City Music Hall, to see The Christmas Spectacular. Many children enjoyed this magical performance. Mrs. Effie Fillos was the Chair-lady for this event.
On Nov 21, 2010 Haravgi celebrated “Ta Eisodia tis Theotokou” with their annual Artoclasia, at St. Catherine and George Church in Astoria. A delicious traditional lenten luncheon was provided by the society. The event was chaired by Mrs.Calliope Bournis.
On November 30, 2010 the ladies held their annual event honoring “Agios Andreas, ” at the Nisyriko Spiti. As always delicious “Loukoumades” were served. The fun continued with a lively Bingo game and an abundant raffle. Mrs. Maritsa Xanthos chaired this event, with Mrs. Mary Papamichael responsible for the raffle prizes. Proceeds from this event were donated to The Ronald McDonald House.
On December 18, 2010 Haravgi hosted their annual Christmas party, at the Nisyriko Spiti. Stacey Figetakis along with her committee, , held a very successful event. There were approximately 300 people in attendance and 145 presents were given to the children. A delicious luncheon buffet and plenty of tasty sweets were provided. The Nisyrian Youth played an important role on this day providing not only assistance but also partaking in the craft making with the children.
On January 14, 2011 Haravgi held their first General Meeting of the new year, at the Nisyriko Spiti. On this evening the traditional “Vasilopita” was cut by our president Irene Angelidakis, along with the new president of the Nisyrian Society of New York, Mr. Kostas Sfakianos, and the President of the Nisyrian Youth Ms. Irene Constantinides.
